As an animal lover, I have long been concerned about Gumtree advertising the sale, and non sale of animals on the site.
As crazy as it sounds in the past, I have heard of people sourcing cats for free, destroying and eating them! - and other forms of horrid abuse. Although there was no proof of this, it has always been talked about. I have now got proof for you that animal adoption, or people giving animals away for free can lead to their harm as in many cases, free animals being adopted without having to have the new owners details identifiable and on record.

It is highly unlikely that this is the first time such things have happened. I know that you would never advocate animal abuse, so I am writing to show you why animal adoption is best left to the professionals (shelters). Shelters sell animals for a price, which best prepares the new owner for the ongoing vet bills that will be incurred when owing an animal. The money shelters Make also go back into the shelters to help more animals.
Pet shops have almost gone out of selling animals now as well, if you haven't noticed and for good reason.
