Recently, it was disclosed that Camp Redfox and Diabest, summer camps for kids with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick, have been cut from D-Camps. This will have an immense negative effect both on staff at D-Camps and the campers who have come to love camp so dearly.
The cancellation of Redfox and Diabest has been made as a budget decision, without taking into account the effect it will have on the children involved. Both Camp Redfox and Camp Diabest have been a haven of fun and friendship for kids with T1D for years; cancelling and relocating the camps will make it significantly less accessible, and therefore limit the opportunities for learning and growth that these children can access. By moving the camp outside the province, many children will not be able to experience camp, due to the additional travel costs, including gas, bridge toll for those located in PEI, and extended travel times.
Sign this petition to tell Diabetes Canada and D-Camps that you will not support this decision and demand to save Camp Redfox and Camp Diabest!
