The Heartland Gun Club is requesting a permit to build a gun club on two acres at 5105 Commercial Drive SW. It is within 500 feet of a residential area and in addition to an active eagle's nest. The transport of guns to and from this facility raises concern for families in the maintenance of a "safe" neighborhood. Additionally, the preservation of the active bald eagle's nesting site is jeopardized in this location. For both these reasons, and more, granting a permit to build a gun club and shooting range in this location is detrimental to the safety, protection, and well-being of residents and wildlife. The denial of a building permit would maintain the integrity of home ownership in this area.
The Heartland Gun Club and Range is seeking a permit to be issued by the City of Rochester to build a 12,000-square-foot facility called Heartland Gun Club & Range on two acres at 5105 Commercial Drive SW. According to the Rochester Post Bulletin, reported January 17, 2017, the Heartland Gun Club "will include a public shooting range with eight to twelve lanes, a retail area, and more than 1,800 square feet of training space. Indoor and outdoor event spaces also are expected to be part of the project." The petitioners, as signed below, request that a permit be denied, based on the location of a residential area in the "backyard" of the proposed gun club. Additionally, the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act protects the disturbance of the active eagle's nest that is in the immediate area of the proposed gun club. We, the petitioners, request that the Heartland Gun Club be denied their request for a permit to build their proposed gun club at Commercial Drive SW Rochester.
