Save Right Whale with Reduced Speed Limits

  • van: Animal Advocates

The speed limits put in place in 2008 to reduce ship strikes on right whales in their breeding grounds is set to expire in December 2012.

The channel heavily used for shipping commerce is also where the north Atlantic right whale spend their lives- from the Gulf of Maine to the coast off Florida.

Right whales are still endangered, with only 400 left. There has not been enough time for the whales to recover its population- and extinction, without human intervention, is a real possibility. Extend the reduced speed limit in right whale habitat.
