Dear Mr. Ban Ki-moon,
We appreciate your recent communication with the Syrian leadership condemning the killing of peaceful demonstrators and asking for urgent investigations.
We are writing to show you, as the UN secretary, our deepest concerns about the rapidly deteriorating situation in Syria.
We have been watching the recent events in Syria with deep sorrow and pain. Since the need for political and social reform in Syria has become an urgent and pressing matter, people in Syria decided to proceed with peaceful protests calling for freedom and democracy, which they lacked for 40 years. While the Government declared in several occasions, that they would allow peaceful protests to take place, they continued to crack down on protesters by using their security forces to hit, arrest and kill unarmed civilians, including minors.
Despite their promise to you to investigate the events of the previous days, the Government forces continue to detain and kill protesters, and the numbers are dramatically increasing every day. They are not allowing any independent media to work in the country to give a credible coverage
It is saddening for us to watch the breech of human rights in our beloved country, as the Government fails to fulfill its promises.
Freedom is all what the Syrian People are asking for. Is this too much?
We are calling the UN to continue its efforts to pressure the Syrian Authority to stop the bloodshed immediately and to allow independent media to cover the situation in syria.
Sincerely,
