Demand they put children back on a bus

Eastwood Elementary has stopped transporting children who live within a mile of school. They say its due to bus driver shortage. However, it is jeopardizing the safety of the children who are now forced to cross a busy street.

Two weeks ago, the crossing/security officer was forcefully hit by an oncoming vehicle. Two seconds later it would of been the children attempting to cross who were hit. Whom watched this happen. My youngest grandchild thinking she died.

Raytown achool district stated for the local news they would change the route. They did not.

Many elementary age children are forced to cross a busy street twice a day. We have asked they be put back on the bus. After the unfortunate incident of the crossing/security guard being hit.

But they lied. And have not and seem to have no plan to do so.

The director of transportation state they had 44 drivers last year. And only 34 this year. But yet with 34 drivers they are not concerned about this children crossing a dangerous street.

In addition, the other district elementary school which is on a very less busy street. Has a stop light. But our children do not.

I would like to say it was an unfortunate accident. But it was a preventable accident. That fortunately did not result in a young child death. A small child would not of survived the hit.

It is their basic human right to not have to risk their lives to go to school. Nor to have that daily fear.

Demand Raytown school district put these children back on the bus! Please before a child is hit!
