GOP: Stop Punishing the Unemployed
Democrats are working hard to fix the economy Republicans nearly destroyed. In the meantime, struggling American families must rely on unemployment benefits to pay the rent, put food on the table and keep up with bills.
Unbelievably, Republicans filibustered an extension of these benefits in yet another attempt to make President Obama fail.
Obama chided the Republicans, saying they've, made "their stand on the backs of the unemployed" and, "They've got no problem spending money on tax breaks for folks at the top... but they object to helping folks laid off in this recession." In the midst of the worst job market since the 1930s, it seems everyone but the Republicans understands these unemployment benefits are desperately needed.
It is simply unconscionable that Republicans blocked legislation to hurt out-of-work Americans just to make a political point. Give Republican leaders a piece of your mind. Tell them to stop playing political games with people's lives.
