In Mumbai in the late 1980s and early 1990s, there were about 50 human rabies deaths every year in spite of a large scale dog-killing programme. Government sources claim that over half of human rabies deaths are caused by unvaccinated pets, so the killing of strays had no impact on human rabies.
We do not kill all men when some men kill children. Crimes against children being of the worst kind. Then why kill all dogs for what happened in the outskirts of the city...where some wild pack dogs killed two children? These areas are not covered by the NGO's work of sterilizing and vaccinating strays. Why are they blaming NGOs then? What has happened to our city ? Are we such barbarians? I have heard back from people saying.” Yes they should kill all the dogs. I love only humans.” It is a shame to hear of such thoughts from the land of Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi It is a shame on our Nation! Where have our values gone? Where is our sense of fairness? Do we only think on an emotionally charged level? Is it too much to ask for people to look at all the angles and think with a level head? What are we teaching our children? That is it ok to go on a mass killing spree of animals? What values will our children grow up with then? That is it ok to go as a lynch mob and kill animals and then next maybe humans too? There was one news article of how children were leading the dog catchers to the place where the stray dogs were in the market place. The market place is where most friendly strays are. Since they are well fed by shop owners and just loll about all day. The BBMP claims that they only put down the ferocious stray dog. How does one judge which dog is ferocious? When in a cage and frightened, all dogs will bark and look ferocious. Once the shelters were full up the dogs were taken and killed on the outskirts by bashing their heads in. It makes one sick to the stomach to see man’s best friend killed so brutally.
Please sign this petition and stop this political eye wash. It is important that we take action quickly, before other states follow this shameful act.

The BBMP are killing sterilized or un sterilized dogs. M.F. Saldanha, former judge, High Court of Karnataka, in a letter to Minister for Health R. Ashok, said that the culling of dogs is a "knee-jerk reaction that has set back the anti-rabies programme" in which Bangalore was doing so well. When these dogs are killed the un sterilized dogs from outside will move in and we will again face problems of dog bites and rabies.
This is hindering the work done by the NGO's such as CUPA (Compassion Unlimited Plus Action) PFA (People For Animals), KRUPA and KARUNA. BBMP should work with the NGO'S to catch and sterelize dogs and put down only the ferocious ones which attacked the children. When dogs form packs they get the pack mentality and attack. Just jumping up and doing something fast as in catching dogs and killing is not going to help as in planning on how to solve the garbage problem on the streets. Where there is garbage the stray dogs will come. Infact the BBMP has been disposing of the culled dogs along with garbage and trying to cover it up,
This is not going to help anyone. Please stop the sensless killings.
"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." -Mahatama Gandhi
