North Carolina Should Prepare for Sea Level Rise, Not Ignore It

Anti-environment legislators in North Carolina are now directly attacking science itself. A bill in the General Assembly (H819) would tell state scientists what data to use (and not use) regarding their predictions for sea level rise along our coast. This proposal is an attempt to scuttle a state panel's fact based predictions on the rate of sea level rise along our coast.

The draft legislation would prohibit state scientists and local governments from using projections of accelerated sea rise -- due mainly to global warming -- when forming coastal development plans. Comedian Stephen Colbert summed up the intent of H819 best by joking that, "If science gives you a result you don't like, pass a law saying the result is illegal. Problem solved."

Help stop these outlandish attacks on science and common sense in North Carolina by signing our petition against H819 today!
Dear [Decision Maker],

I urge you to strongly oppose House Bill 819 and any attempt to tell state scientists and local governments what data they may or may not use when planning for sea level rise in North Carolina. H819 is a direct attack on science itself and has no place in the halls of the North Carolina General Assembly.
