Maine's top election official -- Secretary of State Shenna Bellows -- has removed Donald Trump from the state's 2024 ballot, citing the 14th Amendment's "insurrectionist ban."
"I do not reach this conclusion lightly," Bellows wrote. "Democracy is sacred … I am mindful that no Secretary of State has ever deprived a presidential candidate of ballot access based on Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment. I am also mindful, however, that no presidential candidate has ever before engaged in insurrection."
Bellows was right to remove Trump from the ballot, but make no mistake -- this took courage. MAGA extremists have responded with a torrent of hate, threats, and vitriol, and it's got to be scary to be on the receiving end of that.
Sign on, join us in thanking Bellows for taking this step, and let her know that we stand with her against MAGA extremists and MAGA threats.
