Urge the Hong Kong Government to Initiate an Investigation into Ocean Park after Two Seals and a Monkey Died

Two seals, including a newborn, have died at Hong Kong’s Ocean Park while a red panda was at risk after it broke out of its enclosure and into a giant panda area, according to a report on scmp.com

Furthermore, a golden snub-nosed monkey - one of three on loan from another zoo- died after a general anaesthesia procedure.

The story reports: " Dr Samuel Hung Ka-yiu, chairman of the Dolphin Conservation Society, questioned the park’s capabilities to raise seals in captivity and suspected the deaths may have involved negligence on the part of the park’s staff.

"Hung said he did not understand why the park did not provide 24-hour monitoring of the pregnant spotted seal, especially when she was due to give birth in the coming weeks.

"This close monitoring of expectant mothers was a process the park usually had in place for dolphins, he said.

This series of events should never be repeated. Will you join me in urging the Hong Kong Government to initiate an investigation into management practices at the Ocean Park?
