Pledge to Save the Chesapeake Bay
The Chesapeake Bay is one of America's greatest natural resources. For centuries, this beautiful estuary has supported boating, swimming, fishing and crabbing. Sadly, overdevelopment has placed an incredible strain on the Chesapeake's fragile ecosystem and overall survival.
These past few years have been particularly destructive. Oysters, which could once filter the Bay completely clean in just two days, have been decimated to 2% of their original population. Forests, which greatly improve water quality, are being reduced at a rate of 100 acres per day. In 2010, almost 300 million pounds of nitrogen and prosperous poured into the Bay, choking underwater grasses, crabs and fish.
But as a resident of the watershed, your actions can help restore the Bay.
