Republican states across the country are rolling back child labor laws, desperate to find workers to fill jobs who aren't in a position to fight for fair pay.
Last year, at least 16 states have passed or proposed laws rolling back child labor rules, allowing them to work adult schedules — and putting them at great risk for exploitation or to be forced to work in situations that would usually be deemed unsafe for minors.
Tell Republicans to stop trying to roll back child labor laws!
The consequences have been deadly. A 16-year-old in Vancouver, WA, just lost both of his legs after getting illegally put to work digging a channel and got dragged underneath the blade of a machine. Last year, another 16-year-old was killed while working at a sawmill in Wisconsin.
That's not to mention the tens of thousands of child labor law violations that have been discovered since the push to roll back labor laws began. Our kids deserve to have childhoods free from the threat of losing limbs or the stress of the night shift.
