BECAUSE ANIMALS ARE SUFFERING AT THEIR HANDS.
Example #2: (LINK: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.685336901482680.1073741848.302521793097528&type=3 ) Meet Nala (Id# A1593520). We do not have the full details of her intake date and/or if she was euthanized as well or if she died alone in her cage suffering or rescued after suffering whom knows for how long. If you look at her intake picture she entered the shelter healthy and at the end of her shelter stay she is on death’s bed. Why wasn’t she given medicine? Why was she allowed to get to this state of sickness? Why is a shelter allowed to do this, especially when they have a vet on site and access to medicine.
Broward County Animal Care and Adoptions has been operating in defiance of every conceivable recognized humane welfare ethic and public law for far too long.
The breadth and scope of these animal welfare violations and violations of law literally boggle the mind and defy all rationality. The public trust is being violated regularly behind a veil of secrecy.
Animals brought into Broward County Animal Care and Adoption shelters are subjected to an ever-present epidemic of kennel cough which is used as an excuse to murder dogs as young as 7 months old and at times even younger than that. Cats are getting uri’s (upper respiratory infections) and being treated when they are already too sick that the treatment doesn't do any good and then after the animal suffers in the cage day after day the animal then is euthanized (when Rescue hold are placed) after they have suffered for in some case as long as 17 days; if the shelters cannot medically treat the animals as soon they show some symptoms they should be humanely euthanized, and not sit in their cage suffering for days and days. (Refer to the examples at the bottom of this petition.) Dogs and cats are brought into Broward County Animal Care and Adoptions shelters healthy are sick within 4-6 days of incarceration and killed often a few day after beginning treatment and let them suffer in their cages, and as they are on their death bed they then decide to euthanize, and they call this humane. Cats are also mishandled, abused and left to suffer and die from injuries and/or killed. Time constraints to find these animals homes can be as limited as one day, 5 days or can last for months, depending upon veiled decisions made by Administration, without rhyme, reason or explanation, but in most cases death is the result. Conditions in Broward County Animal Care and Adoptions shelters can best be described as chaotic, unsanitary and overcrowded on a regular basis. They are known to take in other cats and dogs from surrounding counties when they do not have room for them, and as a result this is causing over crowd, and animals being neglected in their cages. They should close the animal intake when they are at full capacity! Other shelters are doing this with better results! Example MDAS' Cat receiving has been closed since May, 2013 following an issue with panleukopenia, and we are now aware that that the Pompano shelter is having a big issue with panleukopenia for some time now, yet the shelter keeps taking in cats.
The people of Broward County and surrounding counties as well as people across the world that rely on these shelters want the veil pulled back on Broward County Animal Care and Adoptions shelters operations We request a long overdue investigation into shelter operations, vets, staff and volunteers. We demand a restructuring of Broward County Animal Care and Adoptions shelters immediately, the people who make arbitrary life-and-death decisions with willful disregard for public opinion. Broward County taxpayers are being deceived by shelter management and our intelligence is being disparaged by outright lies.

He was surrendered to Broward County Animal Services by his previous owners on 06/28/2013. He was surrendered healthy and vibrant. He had a healthy coat, vibrant clear eyes, healthy weight index and was alert and happy. At some point Skeeter became sick. He suffered in his cage day after day for 17 days, and was on his death bed by 07/15/2013. On 07/15/2013 the shelter decided to then euthanize him when he had a rescue hold!!!. How can a shelter and their staff let this happen to Skeeter? If anyone else did this to their pet at home they would be arrested for animal neglect. How can a shelter let this happen for 17 days? Skeeter deserves an answer and so do all the other Skeeter’s that we don’t even know about!
