Despite international outrage in response to their killing of Marius, a healthy 18 month old giraffe in February 2014, whom they deemed surplus to breeding requirements, media reports today (March 25th 2014) reveal that Copenhagen Zoo has again killed a number of healthy animals in their care.
They are reported to have killed a family of four lions, two adults and two young cubs, in order to make way for the arrival of a new male lion, whom they hope will breed with female lions in their zoo. Despite widespread criticism and outrage with regard to their killing of healthy animals, the zoo do not appear to feel that their breeding policies and procedures need to change.
Tell Copenhagen Zoo now that the ongoing policy of killing healthy animals in their care is not acceptable and that it is time to review and change their breeding policies and procedures, to allow for the accommodation of healthy animals for as long as they require care.
