We, the parents and affected UVU community members, petition the UTA to provide a safe bus stop for the children attending the UVU Wee Care Center. We also ask the University to work with UTA to make the University accessible for students that would like to use public transportation with small children.
The current bus stops provided are not adequate for small children, in their safety or proximity to the Wee Care Center. The Wee Care Center is at the top of a very large and steep hill. The closest bus stops are approximately ½ mile from the preschool. Temperatures in Utah county swing from very hot to very cold and air quality is frequently dangerously poor; it is not reasonable or safe to ask children aged 2-4 to walk outside ½ mile up a very steep hill just because their parents/guardians are using public transportation.
We ask the UTA to provide bus stops in the proposed area that are already on the UVX bus route. Not additional infrastructure is needed. The buses simply need to be permitted to stop.
