This is a plea to the city of Pickering to please reconsider your position on using a security company to facilitate and staff crossing guards in the area. Currently Staffing Services has the contract and has held the contract for the past 9 years. Our current crossing guards are loyal, alert, and take the safety or our children very seriously. The city of Pickering is looking into giving the contract to a security company because the proposal is lower in cost. Lower in cost does not mean better in service. Many of the crossing guards that we have grown accustom to seeing every day at the assigned corner will not transfer over if the city of Pickering follows through. Most of the current crossing guards are retired individuals looking to supplement income and usually go above and beyond the requirements of the job. They are people in the community who genuinely care about the people in it, and help keep our kids safe. We don't need a security company putting security guards at our school street corners. Keep things the same and keep our crossing guards. Please sign this petition if you agree.
