The act of shark finning is to slice the fins off of live sharks and then toss the animal back into the water to drown or bleed to death. Shark fins are used for soup and Chinese medicine and draws a good price on the open market. The meat of the shark is not as valuable and tossed overboard to make more room for the fins on fisherman’s boats. Because of these horrid practices, sharks are becoming extinct. They are an important part of ocean life. Shark finning has been banned in Costa Rica but fisherman have discovered loopholes in the industry.
Fishermen have discovered a new method where they keep the fins attached to the shark’s spine or body rather than toss the bodies back into the water. This is not acceptable and fishermen need to know it is not ok or legal to do so. Shark finning is so brutal and barbaric!

Costa Rica Government Officials – You need to close the loop holes that allows for legal shark finning by your local fishermen. This is such a cruel, brutal practice that needs to be stopped in its entirety. Remove the loopholes that makes the fisherman think it is ok and legal to go shark finning. Enforce the laws that removes this barbaric practice at all cost!
