We the undersigned agree to boycott the daily deal website Groupon, unless they stop supporting the cruel greyhound racing industry, which results in the exploitation, maiming and deaths of thousands of dogs in the UK each year.
For some time Groupon has been supporting the horror of the greyhound racing industry by offering 'Nights at the Dogs' deals on its website, fuelling the cycle of dogs bred, culled, raced to death and dumped that goes on inside this barbaric "sport".
For every greyhound that enters racing another will not make the grade and is likely killed. Thousands of greyhound pups and young dogs are put to death because they fail to reach racing standards.
It is the same fate for many dogs that have competed on the track and not all are humanely put-to-sleep by a vet. Some dogs, like the one in the photo, have been found dumped with their ears hacked off so they can't be identified and their owners traced. Many aren't lucky enough to be found alive. A large number are killed, sometimes by extremely cruel methods such as drowning or poisoning, because some owners and trainers are not prepared to pay the cost of having them put to sleep by a vet.
There are increasing numbers of reports of trainers shooting dogs when their racing days are over. In 2007, national newspapers covered the story of one man who was paid to shoot 10,000 ex-racing greyhounds in the head, sometimes 40 a day, over a 15 year period.
It is estimated that in the UK between 10 and 20 thousand greyhounds a year "disappear".
In all aspects of welfare the industry has failed dismally, and since 1926 (when commercial greyhound racing began in Britain) hundreds of thousands of greyhounds have been killed.
We must take a stand against this, and against companies like Groupon, unless they develop a more ethical stance against animal cruelty.

Groupon needs to develop a more ethical stance towards animal welfare, or risk losing many customers disgusted by your willingness to support animal cruelty.
