EPA -- Investigate Dangerous Power Plant!

Plant Scherer in Juliette, Georgia is the largest producer of greenhouse gases in the United States. It is also responsible for entire neighborhoods nearby falling to cancer and other health problems -- all of which have been diagnosed as environmentally caused by doctors.

The culprit is uranium poisoning, a substance that has been found in residents' water wells on their properties near the plant and in their hair through testing. Uranium is in coal ash, which Plant Scherer produces hundreds of acres of every year. Coal ash is more radioactive than nuclear power plant waste. The waste left over is put into a 900 acre pond by the plant.

It is believed that the ash pond is leaking into the water table. The ash pond isn't lined, and the risk of cancer around unlined ash ponds is extremely high -- 1 in 50 individuals exposed -- which is 9 times higher than smoking a pack of cigarettes every day of one's life. Coal ash ponds are not monitored very well by states, and there is almost no federal regulation.

Georgia Power -- who owns a part of the plant and manages it -- has started buying houses around the plant and then sealing the water wells. They are acting similarly to other companies who are guilty of contaminating water sources.

Please tell the EPA to investigate this dangerous power plant and take proper action to protect the citizens. It is time to put people, health, and the environment before profit.

Please investigate and then take action concerning Plant Scherer in Juliette, Georgia. It has contaminated nearby water sources, leading to uranium poisoning and illness, mainly cancer, of the residents.

This is dangerous and serious, and it needs to be dealt with as soon as possible.
