*** DONATE HERE NOW - THANK YOU ***

**************UPDATE 22/3/19**************

We have heard today, that Nara has been moved out of high security prison for good behaviour and continues to serve her sentence in a lower security setting.

Since her entry to Hólmsheiði women's prison in Reykjavik on 20 February 2019 Nara's family and friends have worked to spread the news of her case across the globe.

An official plea for her pardon has been sent to the Icelandic Ministry of Defence, it will be considered at the end of March 2019 by the Pardons Committee.

Letters have been sent directly to the Chief of Police in Reykjavik, the Icelandic Police Commissioner, the Mayor of Reykjavik, and the President of Iceland.

Her case has been made known to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade and all Australian political parties as well as the Icelandic Embassy in Australia.

On International Women's day, Nara's family and friends marched in solidarity with all women across the world, to raise awareness of her plight, with signs placarded with #SystemFails and #BringNaraHome

Nara still needs your help! Please sign the petition. The Pardons Committee of Iceland will review her case at the end of March. This petition will be a key consideration of the Committee.

Nara will be forced to face the negative long term impact of a jail sentence, if her plea for a pardon is not approved. This will have long reaching impacts on her career, ability to earn a living, and her ability to travel.

*********ORIGINAL PETITION POST 16/02/19*********

28 year old Australian artist Nara Walker will enter a maximum security prison in Iceland this week.

After enduring years of violence, abuse, drugging and rape from her former husband, Nara managed to flee the relationship one evening in 2017 by biting down on her then husband's tongue-which was forcibly inside her mouth.

For the last 15 months Nara has been trapped in Iceland, her passport confiscated by authorities. Authorities that are meant to protect our safety have failed to shine through. Nara was denied medical attention at the time, returned to the home she shared with her abuser, had her evidence dismissed and is now facing maximum security prison, for acting in her own self-defence.

Once Nara was able to take herself to hospital, the first medical report showed that she had internal bruising, a fractured rib, a sprained spine and external bruising.  "There was also a medical report later - also shown in court that I had an injury to my arm - which I still suffer from today"

As a country seen worldwide as a leader in equal rights, it is fair to say this case highlights a potential systematic failure to properly address domestic violence cases across Iceland and undoubtably- the world.

We, the people, make a call to the President of Iceland, to stand up and take action. To grant Nara Walker full and complete pardon from Maximum Security prison, her entrapment in Iceland, and all criminal charges against her name. We raise this case due to the fact that Common Law Principles of Self Defence have been overlooked by the Judicial System. We ask you to allow this young woman to return safely to her home country and family.

Over the last 15 months, Nara has made quite an effort via numerous appeals to have her evidence against her abuser taken seriously, with the Icelandic courts apparently ignoring all proof of prior abuse, rape and violence. This includes medical reports, witness statements, photographic and written evidence and most alarmingly- statements made under oath by her former husband admitting to such actions himself.

The abuser now walks free, living his life safely and freely, while a young woman faces imprisonment in a foreign country amongst the nation's most vile criminals.

Nara faces Maximum Security imprisonment in a matter of days, time is vital. Sign now to support our plea to the President of Iceland- we, the people support Nara- let her come home.

Update #55 jaar geleden
Thank you for showing care towards Nara's ongoing situation. Her case is currently under review with the European Court of Human Rights. We wait with hope in our hearts.

Now outside of Iceland her case has the potential to spread a mindset of change towards domestic abuse victims within the system.

She is still held in Iceland without the right to work, we are calling on you for help.
