Give Brandon Romero the Recognition He Deserves

Brandon Edward Romero was murdered on December 12, 2011.  He died heroically, saving the life of his cousin, Jamie Lee Cruz, from her ex boyfriend Kenneth Waldon.  Kenneth pulled out a gun when Jamie and Brandon went to retrieve belongings that he insisted they come to his apartment to get.  Brandon tried to talk down the ex boyfriend first.  When talking didn't work, he went for the gun before Jamie could get shot.  Brandon screamed for Jamie to get out of the apartment, which she did and made it able for her to escape injury free.  Kenneth then proceeded to shoot and stab Brandon before taking his own life.

Brandon Romero touched the lives of numerous individuals.  His wake saw an attendance of more than 1,000.  He was a very spiritual being, attending church every Saturday ran by Rev. Creflo Dollar.  He donated to charities whenever he could, mostly with the Love a Child, Inc. foundation.  He was a very disciplined person, he never drank or smoked in his life, never even had an urge to try it.

My goal with this petition is to get Brandon Romero the recognition he deserves.  I would like the City to recognize his courageous and selfless act of saving the life of our cousin.  I would like a Certificate of Bravery to be presented to my parents under his name and I would like the corner of 19th Street and 9th Avenue to be named after him.  Brandon Romero was 20 years old, and most 20 year old would not do what Brandon did in the situation he was in.  Brandon deserves some type of acknowledgement from the City, and this petition should help the cause.

Please note the article states Brandon was shot in the head, which is false. Our family was able to give him a proper open casket funeral.
