End Abuse of Roman Carriage Horses!

Horses used to draw "botticelle" carriages around Rome are forced to work long hours in extreme heat. On July 27, 2012, a horse collapsed from strain after being made to draw a carriage in temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit. In 2009, two other horses died pulling carriages.

Horse-drawn carriage rides are a recreational luxury activity, not a transportation necessity. During the hot summer months, tourists can use taxis and other public transportation to reach their destinations.

Rome needs to enforce regulations to protect horses. At the very least, the animals must have rest periods during warmer months and should not have to work at all in extreme heat. Please sign the petition to urge Rome's mayor to protect the city's carriage horses.

To: Gianni Alemanno, Mayor of Rome

We, the undersigned, are concerned that horses used to draw "botticelle" carriages around Rome are forced to work long hours in extreme heat.

We believe that Rome needs to enforce regulations to protect horses. At the very least, the animals must have rest periods during warmer months and should not have to work at all in extreme heat. Please take action to protect the city's carriage horses. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
