Dear Animal Lovers,

We urgently need your help to save 25 dachshunds and 1 Skye Terrier from unnecessary and inhumane euthanasia  in Sweden.

These innocent dogs — some of whom are recognized Swedish Champions are now at risk due to a flawed court decision.

This decision is solely based on a court judgment based on an outdated report prepared by a single, local veterinarian, disregarding other expert assessments, available treatment options, and willing adopters as well breeders eager to provide them with loving homes.

THE FACTS

  • These dogs were rescued from a renowned kennel, whose owners faced severe health problems, lack of resources and exhaustion. The owners didn't receive any support from local authorities
  • A Tragic Pattern: Earlier this year, over 20 dachshunds from the same kennel were euthanized under similar circumstances
  • No treatment was implemented either, nobody listen to any recommendations, what caused conflicts between dogs
  • Volunteers and breeders were and are ready to treat the dogs and find them new homes. Their proposal was completely ignored in the whole process

WHY THIS DECISION MUST BE REVERSED

  1. Unfair Process: The ruling is based on one veterinarian's opinion, ignoring other expert evaluations and transparent review.
  2. Treatment Is Possible: These dogs' health issues are treatable. Resources and adopters are available, moreover breeders are willing to take these dogs back
  3. No recent tests have been conducted to implement preventive health measures
  4. Legal Violations: The decision violates Swedish and EU animal welfare laws, which require thorough, fair, and expert consultation before deciding on euthanasia.

LEGAL GROUNDS FOR OUR APPEAL

  1. EU Law: Article 13 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) recognizes animals as sentient beings and mandates welfare-first decisions
  2. International Convention: Article 6 of The European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals (ETS 125) requires broad expert consultation, which was ignored
  3. Swedish Law: Articles 23 and 24 of the Swedish Animal Welfare Act demand consideration of all treatment options, which this decision failed to do
  4. Fair Trial Rights: Article 47 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights guarantees transparency and fair assessment, neither of which were upheld

OUR DEMANDS TOWARDS SWEDISH AUTHORITIES

  1. Halt euthanasia immediately
  2. Allow medical care, independent assessments, and adoptions or returns to their breeders (as already requested)
  3. Ensure transparency and accountability in decision-making processes
