During World War II, members of the Japanese military forced approximately 200,000 South Korean women to work as sex slaves in their army camps. BBC reports that these women and their supporters have been protesting outside the Japanese embassy every Wednesday for over twenty years. They have recently unveiled a statue of a South Korean woman in traditional clothing just outside the Japanese embassy to represent their 1000th rally.
Although the Japanese government has apologized and offered compensation in the past, it was not enough and was not accepted by the South Korean women. The women who were blatantly abused want more sincerity, more truth and more compensation from the Japanese government.
Tell the Emperor and Prime Minister of Japan that they must settle this matter immediately and give the women who were abused the justice that they greatly deserve.
We the undersigned, demand that the Japanese government give the South Korean women who were sexually abused by the Japanese military during World War II the compensation and respect that they deserve. These women were violated in such a terrible way. They deserve to have a sincere apology and a commendable amount of compensation as this event shattered their lives. They have been waiting decades for justice. Please give them the respect and closure that they deserve.
