As an advocate for children, I'm extremely concerned about the fate of our nation's international hunger-fighting programs.
Food for Peace Title II and McGovern-Dole International Food for Education reach millions of at-risk kids worldwide. These critical programs have enjoyed bipartisan support for decades — but proposed amendments to the House FY24 Agriculture Appropriations bill now threaten to significantly reduce or eliminate their funding.
Families can't afford to lose this support, and countless kids need it to survive and thrive. Especially today, as conflict, climate change and other disasters drive global hunger — pushing 349 million people into crisis levels of food insecurity.
In the face of these devastating challenges, Food for Peace and McGovern-Dole help build a strong foundation for self-sufficiency. By furthering stability in fragile countries and sparking hope in communities being pushed to the edge, these programs also provide long-term benefits to the U.S. economy and national security.
Now is the time for our nation to continue its global leadership by showing full support for this lifesaving work. I urge you to protect children's futures by rejecting any cuts to Food for Peace and McGovern-Dole — and instead advocating for strong investments in international food aid programs.
