Support Bird-friendly Buildings Legislation
Building collisions kill millions of bird each year, and many of these needless deaths can be prevented. A new bill would promote bird-friendly materials and design features at federal buildings.
Please urge your U.S. Representative to cosponsor and support the Federal Bird-Safe Buildings Act, a bipartisan, no-cost common-sense solution to help birds avoid collisions with buildings. Add your own comment for greater impact!
Dear Decision Maker,
I am writing to urge you to support HR 2280, the Federal Bird-Safe Buildings Act. Introduced by Congressmen Mike Quigley (D-IL) and Morgan Griffith (R-VA), this bill promotes bird friendly materials and design features at federal buildings. Hundreds of millions of birds in the U.S. are killed each year when they collide with glass in buildings.
This cost-neutral legislation works hand in hand with state efforts around the country to decrease man-made threats to birds, including "lights-out" programs in our cities during spring and fall migration to help birds safely navigate our night skies, and guidelines that promote bird-safe construction in the private sector.
At a time when hazards to birds are increasing, now is the right time to do everything we can to reduce man-made threats to birds. HR 2280 is an important step in that direction and I urge you to cosponsor and support this legislation.
