End Corporate Welfare for Union-Buster James Dolan and Madison Square Garden
Thirty-one years ago, the teams that call Madison Square Garden (MSG) home - the Knicks and the Rangers - threatened to leave New York. To entice them to stay, Mayor Ed Koch and the State Legislature eliminated MSG's property taxes.
Today, the Knicks and Rangers are still New York teams. Something else also has stuck around: MSG's tax break.
The tax break has cost New York City $350 million and will cost an additional $17 million next year - funds we desperately need for schools, hospitals and more. This corporate giveaway is indefensible, but owner James Dolan's powerful lobbyists have managed to block reform.
Meanwhile, James Dolan continues to thumb his nose at labor laws and New York workers - refusing to negotiate a fair contract with Brooklyn-based technicians at his other company, Cablevision.
Enough is enough. We need to send a strong message that the people of New York are more important than campaign contributions from big corporations.
Sign this petition to call on the New York State Legislature to take action and stop making a union-busting billionaire even richer. Repeal the MSG tax break now.
