One basset hound dead and the other returned to the owners! This is unacceptable! Animal Control needs to take that dog and turn it over to a rescue!
PER Montgomery County PAWS CARE ~ Update on the two dogs posted in Saline County who were suffering.
The one dog, which was severely thin had cancer and was euthanized this morning at the veterinarian's office. The other is back in the care of the owners. Now, we are not going to comment, rather you can make your own judgements and conclusions. We are just here to give information. Our Vice President contacted the mayor of Harrisburg and he helped with the situation. The Saline County Animal Control told us they are not responsible for checking the dogs in the town of Harrisburg. If this outrages you, you may contact officials in Harrisburg, IL including their AC officers.

I've tried everything that I can think of to help the surviving dog but I've failed. Locals send me information and then panic and disappear. Fear of doing the right thing? This town is working together to hide neglect and cruelty. I've heard crazy stories from locals. If you're in Harrisburg, IL and willing to help email me DJDawnA@gmail.com I know the address & owners name but without local help my hands are now tied. If you know the owner have him contact me. Thank you.

Msg sent to me: I looked through the wooden fence & there he was howling & crying. Neighbors said the owner works out of state and he has random people to go feed them but nobody was coming so they'd throw food over the fence. He's home maybe 2 days a month. Nails were growing back into their skin and at 1 point the grass was so high couldn't even see the dogs. This poor dog is left all alone & will die in months just like his sister. The neighbors say they have called animal control for months!

We're almost to our goal! Less than 50 to go! I just copied the link to this petition and sent it to the Mayor, city clerk, city council, and public affairs letting them know that this needs to be addressed. If the surviving basset is in good hands and safe and this is all a misunderstanding then they need to prove it! I'll let you know if they respond.
