When it comes time to bid a beloved companion animal goodbye, many people lay their friends to rest in a nearby pet cemetery. Many North Carolina residents did that at Walden Pond Pet Cemetery in Wilmington. They thought this was a permanent arrangement.
They were shocked to learn recently that a developer now owns the cemetery and plans to turn it into a parking lot. In April, each pet family received a letter giving them 90 days to disinter their pets. If they do not, they’ll have to watch as the developer digs them up or just paves them over.
We the undersigned ask that you prevent the new owners of Walden Pond Pet Cemetery from developing it, and require that they keep it as a pet cemetery. Pets are an important part of many families, and pet lovers deserve respect and reverence for the final resting places of their beloved furry or feathered companions.
