A recent 60 Minutes exposé revealed that one of the country's largest flooring retailers appears to be selling Chinese-made laminate with levels of toxic formaldehyde that exceed California health standards - sign the petition and tell the US Consumer Product Safety Commission to order a recall of Lumber Liquidators’ Chinese-made laminate immediately.
Thanks to the work of Global Community Monitor, the world now knows that certain Lumber Liquidators' Chinese-made laminate flooring the group tested can emit formaldehyde at levels many times above limits set by California Air Resource Board (CARB) regulations. Formaldehyde can cause cancer at high levels of exposure, and cause chronic respiratory irritation and trigger asthma at lower levels.
60 Minutes reporting showed that some Chinese factories that supply Lumber Liquidators' laminate flooring were well aware of the elevated formaldehyde levels, yet labeled their products as CARB compliant. You can see the segment here.
Lumber Liquidators just announced the company would suspend sales of all laminate floor sourced from China, but not replace all the laminate already installed.
The US Consumer Protection Commission needs to take action today to order Lumber Liquidators to recall any unsafe Chinese-made laminate flooring, and take steps to recall the product and replace it with a safe and healthy alternative.
