Congress: Address Malicious Acts of Animal Torture
A few years ago, we were shocked and sickened to learn about videos that depict small animals being intentionally tortured, mutilated and killed for what became more commonly referred to as "crush videos" or "crush porn." In 2010, animal advocates won a victory when President Obama signed the Animal Crush Video Prohibition Act into law.
While that law criminalized the creation, sale and marketing of these videos, it didn't address the underlying cruelty taking place. The Prevent Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act could change that by extending federal jurisdiction to cases involving these disturbing acts of cruelty and increase penalties.
Please sign this petition urging Congress to pass this important piece of legislation to help protect animals from heinous acts of cruelty and ensure their abusers are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
As someone who is concerned with animal welfare and stopping animal cruelty, I am writing today to ask you to support the Prevent Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act.
A few years ago, the public was shocked and sickened to learn about videos that depict small animals being intentionally tortured, mutilated and killed for what became more commonly referred to as “crush videos” or “crush porn.” In 2010, these videos were addressed when President Obama signed the Animal Crush Video Prohibition Act into law.
Even though its passage was celebrated, the new law doesn't address the underlying acts of animal cruelty, but the PACT Act could change that by extending federal jurisdiction to cases involving these disturbing acts of cruelty and ensure that abusers are prosecuted.
I sincerely hope you will support this vital piece of legislation to protect both animals and the public from those who engage in heinous acts of animal cruelty and torture.
