STOP ALLOWING ANIMAL ABUSE IN THE CANADIAN NORTH
Currently the NWT and Nunavut
do not have an Animal Protection Act
We the undersigned call upon the elected members of the GNWT AND NUNAVUT Legislative Assembly to produce an Animal Protection Act which will live up to the standards of Animal Protection as contained within the Criminal Code of Canada and across the rest of the Country of Canada.
The ongoing incidents of animal neglect, abuse and abandonment by negligent owners MUST STOP.
Prosecution under the current Criminal Code of Canada (Bill S-203, with contained amendments) is not being enforced.
Community By-Laws do not provide adequate animal protection nor do offenders face the criminal charges and penalties as contained in Bill S-203.
We also petition that charges under the Criminal Code of Canada be applied and enforced to all offenders under Bill S203 until such time as an Animal Protection Act is in place within the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
