Petaluma Poultry Is Responsible for Animal Cruelty, Despite Marketing Its Chicken as "Free Range"

A new report from DxE, an animal rights group, paints a terrifying picture of the operations at Petaluma Poultry, a Perdue Farms subsidiary.

The report is based on dozens of eyewitness accounts and hours of undercover footage. It confirms many animal rights advocates' worst nightmares: that animal abuse is rampant at Petaluma's supplier farms. To make matters worse, the report shows that these conditions not only cause thousands of chickens to needlessly suffer and endure torture, but that the operation poses massive risks to human health, too

Sign now to demand the USDA and Secretary of Agriculture shut this slaughterhouse down!

The details offered by the report are harrowing. Whistleblowers describe some birds missing their "stun bath," meaning they are fully conscious before slaughter, and others being boiled alive. No living thing deserves this kind of treatment, and yet these slaughterhouses are forcing thousands of chickens to endure it every day.

On top of the abuse, the unsanitary conditions also leave us all at higher risk for zoonotic disease transfer. On one single day in April of 2023, over 1,000 Petaluma Poultry animals were condemned, meaning they were disqualified from the food supply after being slaughtered. What kind of a producer allows so many unhealthy chickens to be brought into their operation – and nearly sent out as normal for public consumption?

We are still living through a global pandemic that killed millions. Animal agriculture producers are well aware of the dangers of viruses transferred to humans from animals. There is absolutely no reason that these slaughterhouses should be allowed to stay open any longer – they pose a risk to all humans and thousands of animals.

The USDA must take a stand and shut down Petaluma Poultry for good. Sign the petition now if you agree!
