In El Paso County, Colorado, a tragic case of neglect ended with the
heartbreaking death of a 16-year-old horse named Cowboy. We don't know exactly why his previous owner was unable to care for him, but we do know that when he finally received rescue assistance, he was at death's door.
Sign the petition to demand justice for Cowboy, and more state funding for rescue organizations that help animals like Cowboy.Cowboy's previous owner eventually did seek help for him, but she waited far too long. By that point, his condition was so dire that
he could no longer stand, regulate his body temperature, or - ultimately - survive. When rescue workers arrived, Cowboy was so weak that heavy machinery was needed just to lift him. His body was riddled with
abrasions, bruising, and swelling from repeated falls since he could no longer stand on his own.
Despite the tireless efforts of Elite Equine Rescue and Rehab to save him, Cowboy passed away just days after being rescued.
The most devastating part of this story is that Cowboy's suffering was preventable. Had his owner contacted local animal rescue groups sooner, Cowboy might still be alive today.
By waiting so long to finally seek assistance, sadly, she sealed Cowboy's fate. Sign the petition now.Authorities in Colorado should provide more funding for animal rescue organizations, so that they are able to step in when crises arise and owners need help caring for their animals. Authorities should also ban Cowboy's human from owning animals again in the future.
