Three teenage boys from Auckland, New Zealand have been bragging about drugging and raping dozens of underage girls on Facebook, Ask.fm, Twitter, and other social media websites since 2011. The group, which calls themselves the “Roast Busters,” posted explicit details about their exploits, naming their victims publicly and slut-shaming them for their own assaults. At least one of their victims has attempted suicide as a result.
Although their victims have come forward to speak to the media and even the police, because none of them have filed a formal complaint, the police say they’re powerless to take any action. While they may not yet be able to take any specific rape cases to court, there must be enough evidence to charge these young men with a crime -- even if that crime is as simple as cyber-bulling or harassment.

We, the undersigned, would like to ask that your office continue to take action and prosecute the young men known as the “Roast Busters,” who have been using social media to brag about raping and drugging underaged girls in the Auckland community.
While it’s commendable that you are not pressuring the victims to come forward and make a formal complaint if they aren’t comfortable doing so, we believe there must be enough evidence to charge these young men with a crime.
Their actions easily constitute cyber-bulling and harassment. They should stand trial and be charged for the emotional damage they have caused to their victims by posting these lewd comments online.
