It is a fact that everyone enjoys the occasional interaction with the beautiful majestic elephant but what is disturbing is that such practices are carried out at the expense of the animal’s health and well-being. Such is the case in Thailand where various entertainment venues and facilities continue to exploit elephants in such a way, despite the recent law that has been passed to curb this type of abuse. Read the full story of such activities at http://www.onegreenplanet.org/news/photos-illustrate-reality-for-thailands-working-elephants/
Such an activity carried out each year is the Surin Round Up in northeast Thailand. As explained in the article, such things occur at this and other festivals as inexperienced teenagers that were using young elephants to aggressively beg for money, selling bags of sugarcane at 20 Baht and charging 50 Baht for a photo. There were also elephants as young as 1 year old being stabbed and controlled with sharp nails and hooks. The injuries these elephants endure are quite evident as they are kicked, pulled and prodded by handlers, other humans and abusive devices.
Our effort in this petition is to speak out to the prime minister and ensure that these practices of cruelty are more closely monitored and put to a final end. You can help us in our goals to save these elephants by signing and sharing this petition. Let your voices be heard in their favor.
