Sometimes being a good samaritan comes with a price. One day in Staten Island, New York, Candice A. Salvatore attempted to save a starving baby pit bull puppy that she had found, which had apparently been abandoned by some train track. Little did she know that trying to save the poor, defenseless puppy would ultimately land her in trouble with the New York Police Department.
Much to her dismay, upon contacting the New York Police Department, Salvatore's act of kindness was completely misunderstood. The police mistakenly thought she was referring to a "child" and as a result, she was later charged with two misdemeanors. One was for second-degree reckless endangerment and the other was for third-degree falsely reporting an incident.
Such an incident is simply uncalled for. An innocent citizen who was simply trying to commit a random act of kindness on a poor, defenseless animal was unjustly punished and found themselves in the courtroom. This is ridiculous and should NEVER happen to another person!!!! We shouldn't punish people for trying to save animals.
Sign the petition and tell the NYPD to stop punishing good samaritans for helping animals in need.

Good samaritans shouldn't be punished for trying to save helpless animals. Candice Salvatore was simply trying to be a good citizen when she called the police to save a baby pit bull in her neighborhood. These actions deserve praise and gratitude, not a day in court.
