Dear Neighbors of Madison Park & To Others,
As some of you may know, an unfortunate accident happened on Tuesday, April 19,2011 around 2:45 pm. I eye-witnessed a dog by the name of Harry get hit & run over by the Metro Bus #11 on 42nd Av. It was a TERRIBLE & HORRIFIC sight to see! It's made me feel like I should take action & do something about it.
I, myself, walk to & from work on 42nd at least five days a week & go jogging frequently. I personally have seen & heard these buses fly down 43rd & 42nd. I sometimes wondered when I'm walking or jogging how safe our streets really are. My worst nightmare happened this day when I saw Harry get hit.
He jumped out of the car with his leash on, ran across the street to his home & was hit by the bus. On this certain part of the block it's a one way & people have to back-angle their cars & walk across the street to their homes. I wonder today if the bus was going slower & being more cautious if Harry's life could of been spared. I dread to think if it could of been someone's child, friend, neighbor or loved one.
That is why I'm writing this petition. In hopes, you, my neighbors of Madison Park & others with pets, children & even yourselves as pedestrians will join me in this petition to find a way to get Metro Bus drivers to slow down on their routes through our streets.
I understand its our responsibility to make sure our pets are on leashes when need be & controlling them, but we also need to make sure our streets are safe to walk when buses & cars are coming down the streets. I know the Metro has a schedule to keep & get riders where they need to go, but those who walk the streets are just as important.
Hoping if I can get enough of your support, I can get the attention of the Mayor, Metro Bus System & City of Seattle to consider changing the speed limits from 25mph to possibly 15-20mph within the streets of residential routes. And, also, to teach the drivers to be more aware & cautious of their driving & speeding when traveling through streets where pedestrians, children & pets are often.
Please let's stand together & take action before anymore lifes are taken from us!
Your support would be greatly appreciated! At least in my heart, I know, Harry's unfortunate death won't go unnoticed & we can take action for these kind of accidents to not happen anymore. More importantly, Harry, knows that we the people of Madison Park & others do care, support & protect our fellow pets, children, neighbors & loved ones.
Here's to Harry....R.I.P.
Thank you for your support & time on this matter,
Tina ;-)
P.s. I also want to give true THANKS to those who are not from Madison Park & supporting my petition. I do believe Harry would give "thanks" too. Every voice counts!
