Play it Forward: Say YES to Coach Appreciation Week!

Youth sports is more than a game; it's a course in life's most valuable lessons. Kids who play sports are more likely to attend college, often land jobs with more responsibility and greater pay, and less apt to engage in gangs or drug or alcohol abuse. Yet, 20 million young Americans don't reap this benefit because without coaches there are no youth sports. It's time we recognize those who Play It Forward and encourage more to do the same so we can bring real change to our communities.
We need 100 representatives between now and August to co-sponsor the resolution to bring it to a vote. ONE MINUTE of your time can make a huge difference -- urge your Representative to sponsor National Coach Appreciation Week and let children realize their full potential now!
Dear Representative,
I urge you to sponsor HRES 6 IH and observe September 13-19, 2009 as National Coach Appreciation Week.
Studies prove that children who participate in organized sports are higher achievers with better grades and lower school dropout rates; they are more likely to attend college and land jobs with more responsibility and greater pay.
Yet for the nearly 42 million American children who participate in organized sports each year and reap this benefit, there are another 20 million children who lack the opportunity due in part to a lack of coaches.
With school dropout rates approaching 50 percent in many urban school districts and a reported one million youth involved in gang activity, we cannot afford to stand by. We know organized youth sports can help curb these figures.
We need to honor our nation's coaches and encourage more adults to step up and volunteer.
