Iceland: stop cutting animals' eyes off!

Did you know that UK retailer Iceland continues to sell prawns from mothers whose eyes are cut off while they're still conscious? This sad reality is unknown to many customers.

Shockingly, Iceland is also in breach of their very own animal welfare standard: For slaughter, prawns have to slowly suffocate in ice slurry – breaking the promise that animals "must be stunned so that they are immediately rendered unconscious until death."

Other UK retailers like Tesco, Sainsbury's, Waitrose and recently Co-op have already pledged to end these cruel practices, but Iceland stays silent.

Join us asking Iceland's founder, Sir Malcolm Walker, to uphold Iceland's promise of "Doing it Right." Sign now and help end the unnecessary suffering of millions of sentient animals.
Dear Sir Malcolm Walker,

I am disappointed to learn that Iceland is breaking its own animal welfare standards on prawns. Apparently, these animals have to slowly suffocate to death in ice slurry without effective stunning - and some even have their eyes brutally cut off while fully conscious.

Scientific evidence from institutions such as the University of Stirling shows prawns feel pain and distress similar to other animals. Leading UK retailers—including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Co-op —have already pledged to phase out these practices within the next couple years, recognizing humane alternatives like electrical stunning.

Iceland claims to be committed to "Doing it Right" and maintaining high animal welfare standards. On your website, you state "Prior to slaughter, animals must be stunned so that they are immediately rendered unconscious and maintained in that state until death." The reality in your prawn supply chain directly contradicts this very promise - and Iceland is lagging behind the recent movement of UK supermarkets to do better.

I don't want to support this hypocrisy. As a customer, I urge Iceland to immediately commit to ending these practices in your prawn supply chain.

Yours sincerely,
