Obama: Back Off Plan B Access
The Department of Justice is manipulating science and history in order to keep all women from getting access to emergency contraception.
Two years ago, the Food and Drug Administration approved over-the-counter sale of Plan B One-Step, a common form of emergency contraception, to all women. But, flying in the face of the administration's promise to make science-based decisions, the Department of Health and Human Services ignored the FDA finding and limited over-the-counter sales to women 17 and older.
A federal judge issued a scathing opinion last month determining that Plan B should be available over-the-counter to all women and without a federal ID. Now, the Department of Justice is appealing the decision and claims the court is interfering with the FDA drug approval process. Too bad it's their own administration that's steamrolling independent science.
Tell the Obama administration to live up to its promises to scientists and women and stop blocking women's access to emergency contraception.
Dear President Obama,
I was dismayed to hear that your Justice Department intends to appeal a federal court ruling overturning your administration's blocking access to emergency contraception. It's time for you to keep your promises to make science-based decisions and protect women's health choices. Stop this appeal and any other political interferences in emergency contraception access.

It was disappointing enough that your Department of Health and Human Services made a calculated political decision to overrule the independent recommendation of the Food and Drug Administration that Plan B One-Step should be available over the counter to all women and place age-restrictions on access. Today, you have the opportunity to right that decision simply by complying with a federal court ruling calling HHS's decision just plain wrong. Do not miss the chance.
Thank you.
