Barney Fife is a 4-1/2 year old English bulldog that spends his days visiting patients at the Memorial White Rose Hospice in York, Pennsylvania. Any dog that serves as a therapy dog like Barney Fife is a very special animal that loves people and enjoys loving and being loved by humans.
Just recently, Barney Fife was shot in the middle of the night while in his own back yard. His owner let him out the back door to do his business within his own fenced-in yard for just a few minutes and when retrieving him back into the house noted he was bleeding. Someone shot him within the confines of his yard while relieving himself.
Since it is risky to give an English bulldog anesthesia, the invasive surgery of removing the bullet was not an option for the vet. Barney is on antibiotics but in severe condition from the gunshot wound. Northern York County Regional Police are asking for the public's help in identifying who shot the dog. We are all hoping that poor Barney Fife will pull through from his injuries and continue the work he loves as a therapy dog.
