Hi, I'm Ashley, I am 24 years old and I am extremely concerned about the collapse of the oceans and the livelihood of the planet.
Here are some important facts about sharks.
- The shark species are 400 million years old. They played an integral role in the evolution of life on earth, both land and in the ocean. Species evolved and adapted due to sharks.
- Sharks are intelligent animals and can be trained.
- Over 100 million sharks are killed every year for their fins.
- After a shark has had all of it's fins cut off, it can live in excruciating pain on the ocean floor for up to four hours.
- In Asian cultures, sharks are eaten for their believed helaing properties, due to the viewed resilient nature. Sharks in fact - due to the pollution of the ocean, have just as much mecury poisoning in their bodies as other large fish and marine mammals.
- Sharks have never been prey, only in now are they due to humans.
- Every two and a half hours, around 15,000 sharks have been killed.
- Without sharks, zooplankton can get out out of control; over-eating phytoplankton, the oceans main sorce of oxygen producers. Sequentially adding to higher levels of carbon dioxide = worsening climate change.
- Any fish over 6ft long has the power to kill any human if they want to. They chose not too.
If this were the case there would be hundreds - thousands of human deaths everyday. We are not food to sharks.
- Sharks kill around 5 people each year.
Elephants and tigers: 2,400
Illegal drugs: 22,000
Road accidents: 1,200,000
Starvation: 8,000,000
The WA Government are investing 6.85 millon dollars into the monitoring of and culling of sharks.
Now is the time to conserve and protect our oceans and their species!
WITHOUT SHARKS AND THE NATURAL BALANCE OF OUR OCEAN, THEIR IS NO LIFE ON LAND!
If you fear death by illegal drugs- do not take them.
If you fear death by a car accident- do not drive.
If you fear death by sharks, do not swim in their ocean.
However, more people are killed by shaking vending machines and then the collapsing machine killing them than a death via shark bite.
