Allow tiny homes in Horry County/Allow a tiny home development for the homeless
My boyfriend and I purchased a custom built shed in December with the intentions of turning it into a tiny home. We recently had code Enforcement called on us and we were told that "tiny homes are not a thing in South Carolina or Horry county" they told us that we have until about the second week of august to find a place to go or we can pop a tent and live outside, but we can not live in our home where it is safe and we have a roof over our heads. Our goal when we started this process was to build our home while keeping track of the cost of all of the materials we used/needed to make the building liveable. Once we finished the interior our intentions were to purchase a large piece of land in a place where the homeless population was very high, (Horry County, Myrtle beach was our first destination). Once we purchased the land we were going to have multiple smaller custom built sheds built for us that we could convert into more tiny homes. Once we finished with ten, we intended on opening our land up to the homeless, each homeless person would get 5 months free of rent, while they work on getting a job and a car and anything else they need. After those five months they would pay a very small amount for rent. After they are there for one year they can choose to take their tiny home with them, move, or even stay with a higher rent rate. It all seamed like a wonderful way to help the homeless population lower, until the state and Horry County got involved. Please consider signing my petition to make tiny homes a thing here is SC, to make tiny home developments a thing, to help better our state.
