PETITION TO BAN THE SALE OF ANIMALS AT RETAIL OUTLETS
Victoria, British Columbia
This is a plea to Victoria, BC’s city councils to follow Richmond, BC’s lead and ban the sale of animals in pet stores.
The ugly truth is, by purchasing an animal from a pet store you are in fact supporting a multi-million dollar a year industry -Animal wholesale.
The petitioners and residents of the City of Victoria, BC request that the Victoria, City Council take action to:
- Ban on the sale of animals from retail outlets in Victoria, BC
- Ensure that the sale of animals be restricted to qualified registered breeders or that animals are obtained by adoption through recognized rescue organizations and shelters;
- Ensure that detailed information on responsible ownership be provided before sale, including an animal's expected lifespan, growth, dietary and exercise needs and the cost of ownership.
- Require spay/neutering contract be in place before sale from qualified, registered breeders.
