Republican State Representative Matt Huuki proposed a bill on August 15th to legalize Grey Wolf hunting in Michigan, to reduce livestock loss.
Statistics show there has only been 4 livestock losses in 2012 from the states 700 wolves. This bill would include killing wolves that have not preyed on livestock,- and make wolves a general "game species".
Disruption of wolf packs who are not preying on livestock may actually increases the likelyhood that they will turn to preying on livestock- as their natural structure would be grossly altered.
This bill is not based in sound science, but rather caters to special interest hunting groups who consider hunting and killing a sport and recreation. Typically, "game species" are used as a food source, not as a bloodsport or target practice.
Wolves play a very important role in ecosystems, as the country found out a few decades ago when they were hunted to near extinction, and had to be re-introduced. Tell Michigan to stop the plans for an open season wolf hunt.
