***UPDATE SUN 3/19: Please keep this circulating! ***
>>>News from Brooklyn's FB on March 18: "First off I want to say thank you for all the support and love you folks have given me during this plight. I want you to know that it's not over. I can't give any details but I believe that there still is a chance. I've been given some advice and help that should be beneficial. Again TY from the bottom of my heart. GO BRUINS WRESTLING!" <<<
" Cascade's head wrestling coach,Brooklyn Obregon, is being asked to resign by Friday March 17th, if not, he will be terminated. The issues cited for his dismissal are weak & undocumented. We wish for him to be retained as we feel him being let go is unjust to the Wrestling team. their families & the community
Coach is well respected in the Western Washington Wrestling community. He currently runs a USA Freestyle program where wrestlers commute from as far away as Sultan & Granite Falls. Also wrestlers who compete at local WESCO high schools attend so they can benefit from his training.
Dear Mr. Aguilar, Mr. Polk, Dr. Cohn & Members of the Everett School Board,
I am forwarding you the results of the petition I started in regards to retaining Coach Brooklyn Obregon as Head Wrestling Coach for Cascade High School. I wanted to let the people who we have entrusted to do our bidding as taxpayers know how well-respected and appreciated he is in the community. I know the response to the petition was eye-opening even for Brooklyn as he doesn’t do what he does for kudos; he does it for the kids!
I, once again, am truly baffled by how this was handled and, most of all, by the reasons given. Brooklyn is a great coach and highly respected throughout the Washington Wrestling Community. Most of all, he is a well-respected staff member on the Cascade campus by his peers but, most importantly, by the students. Anyone who has witnessed Brooklyn in action is usually awed by the way he reaches out to the kids, communicates to them on their plane & guides them into making better decisions. It’s a talent few possess & should be honored by those who employ him. I realize you are going to respond this action doesn’t have anything to do with his current position, however, we all know it shines an unfavorable light on his accomplishments.
This is the third time there have been coaches who have been asked to leave or have left during my stint as a CHS parent. Actually we have discovered there are more who have chosen to leave as they don’t want to deal with the hassle of trying to prove their worth to an unappreciative & uncooperative Administration. In my four years as a very involved CHS parent, I have been privy to some of the more difficult & undesirable issues at Cascade. It is understandable there are issues in all levels but it seems Cascade has a preponderance which isn’t evident from communicating with the boosters of the two other high schools of this district.
Initially we are still requesting a thorough investigation of the reasoning involved in Brooklyn’s release and believe he deserves his head coach position. With that in mind, we will be forging ahead to seek positive changes be made in securing the future of athletics at Cascade.
Respectfully,
Candy M. Raymond
