A boycott has been enacted to stop the hunting of seal except that TV host and Celebrity chef Anthony Boudain seems to suddenly be stallining on the process. He was all for promoting the ban on seal hunting sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States but has changed his tune in proceeding to protect the animals.
In some recent messages and tweets, Mr. Bourdain states, "I'm all for protecting seals, but a total ban dooms the indigenous people above [the] Arctic Circle to death or relocation." "To hold the entire Canadian seafood industry hostage over sustainable, absolutely necessary tribal practice is ill considered ... I completely understand well meaning intentions of good hearted chefs who signed this petition. But they are wrong.” He seems to take pleasure in joining the community in a hunt and feast, "a mix of blood-spattered butchery and loving nourishment. A meal like I've never experienced."
On one hand, this man is in support of the seal hunt ban along with the Humane Society but on the otherhand, he is stating that the seal population in Canada is a healthy one and the ban would cause a problem because it is like punishing the Canadian fishing industry. The Humane Society is confused about Mr. Bourdain’s comments, criticisms and misinformation regarding the seal hunt ban. Ms. Kathryn Kullberg, director of the Wildlife protection group states to the CBC news that "The dead seals go on the very same boats used to catch seafood the rest of the year, so it is the same exact industry and there's a very clear link."
Although the boycott on seal hunting is advancing, Mr. Bourdain’s criticisms and hampering is being favored by defenders in his favor. This man seems to have a lot of pull, reeling in others against the ban on seal hunting. We need to encourage this man to stop hindering the progress and protect the seals!
