The corrupt dividends of Trump's efforts to stack the federal judiciary are already paying off for him. Trump-appointed U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon has approved the disgraced ex-president's request for a "special master" to be appointed to review the documents seized from Mar-a-Lago by the FBI in order to deal with issues of executive privilege and attorney-client privilege.
The move has been denounced by legal experts as an astounding example of partisan judicial obstruction. Law professor Stephen I Vladeck called it "an unprecedented intervention by a federal district judge into the middle of an ongoing federal criminal and national security investigation," and professor Peter Shane says "you don't need a special master to identify whether the documents are potentially the subject of executive privilege!"
